Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
