The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
