Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
