Also, it is not a sin if you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage or the fixing of the dowry. But the dowry will be due from a husband whether he is rich or poor. It is payable in a reasonable amount according to the husband's financial ability. This is an obligation for the righteous ones. 236 If you divorce them before you have touched them but after their dowry has been determined, give them half of what you determined, unless they pardon, or he pardons in whose hand is the marriage knot. And if you pardon it is nearer to warding off (evil). Do not forget the generosity between each other. Allah is the Seer of what you do. 237 Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah. 238 And if you fear (an enemy), perfrom Salat (pray) on foot or riding. And when you are in safety, offer the Salat (prayer) in the manner He has taught you, which you knew not (before). 239 And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind - for their wives is a bequest: maintenance for one year without turning [them] out. But if they leave [of their own accord], then there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in an acceptable way. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. 240 There shall be for divorced women provision honourable -- an obligation on the godfearing. 241 Thus Allah makes clear His commandments for you: it is expected that you will use your common sense. 242
