The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
