[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
