The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
