He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
