Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
