The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
