Nay! By the moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the criminals, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
