He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
