The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
