The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
