The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
