The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
