He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
