And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
