The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the finest, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
