The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
