When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
