Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
