The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
