It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate. 11 (Allah) said: "What prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?" He said: "I am better than he: Thou didst create me from fire, and him from clay." 12 So God said: "Descend. You have no right to be insolent here. Go, and away; you are one of the damned." 13 He said: respite me till the Day they shall be raised up. 14 (Allah) said: "Be thou among those who have respite." 15 (Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. 16 Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]." 17 [And God] said: "Go forth from here, disgraced and disowned! [And] as for such of them as follow thee - I will most certainly fill hell with you all! 18 And you, O Adam, and your spouse, live in the Garden and eat your fill wheresoever you like, but do not approach this tree, or you will become iniquitous." 19 Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." 20 And he swore to them, “Indeed I am a well-wisher for both of you.” 21 Thus he cunningly seduced them. When they tasted the tree's fruit, their nakedness became exposed to them and they started covering themselves with the leaves of the garden. Their Lord called out to them, "Did I not forbid you to approach that tree, and did I not say to you that Satan was surely your open enemy?" 22 They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." 23 He said: Get forth, some of you, the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time. 24 He said: "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)." 25
