The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
