He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
