The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
