۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
