The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
