He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
