The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
