The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the angels who release with gentle release. 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 and will be followed by another quaking. 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: that then shall be a losing return. 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 Then say: Have you (a desire) to purify yourself: 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 Then he shewed him the great sign. 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Then he turned back striving. 22 and gathered his people and declared: 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
