He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
