He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
