Alshu'araa' 5 of 11
And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 You and your fathers? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
