The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
