He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
