Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
