A throng of the ancients 39 and many from the later generations. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
