A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
