۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allah's Religion - Islamic Monotheism and this Quran) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who brought Allah's religion - Islamic Monotheism). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
