Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 A revelation from the most benevolent, ever-merciful, 2 A Book the verses of which are explained in detail, the Qur’an in Arabic for people of intellect. 3 to be a herald of glad tidings as well as a warning. And yet, [whenever this divine writ is offered to men,] most of them turn away, so that they cannot hear [its message]; 4 And they say: "Our hearts are under coverings (screened) from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a screen, so work you (on your way); verily, we are working (on our way)." 5 Say: 'I am only a mortal, like you are. To me it has been revealed that your God is One God; so go straight with Him, and ask for His forgiveness; and woe to the idolaters 6 who do not pay the zakat, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 Verily those who believe and work righteous works - unto them shall be a hire unceasing. 8
