The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
