The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
