The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
