And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said, "Do you see these - whom you worship?" 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 "And none misled us but the guilty." 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 "Nor a caring friend." 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
