Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
