AND [thus it is:] We have not created heaven and earth and all that is between them without meaning and purpose, as is the surmise of those who are bent on denying the truth: but then, woe from the fire [of hell] unto all who are bent on denying the truth! 27 Shall We treat those who believe and do good works as those who spread corruption in the earth; or shall We treat the pious as the wicked? 28 We have sent down a Book to you which is blessed, so that people may apply their minds to its revelations, and the men of wisdom may reflect. 29 And We gave unto David Solomon; how excellent a servant he was! He was a penitent. 30 When his dressage steeds were presented to him in the evening, 31 And he said: "Alas! I did love the good (these horses) instead of remembering my Lord (in my 'Asr prayer)" till the time was over, and (the sun) had hidden in the veil (of night). 32 (Then he said): Bring them back to me, and fell to slashing (with his sword their) legs and necks. 33 We tested Solomon by (causing death to his son) and leaving his body on Solomon's chair. Then he turned to Us in repentance, 34 saying, "Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that no one after me can have the like. You are All-munificent". 35 Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,- 36 as well as all the rebellious forces [that We made to work for him] - every kind of builder and diver 37 And others bound together in shackles. 38 “This is Our bestowal. So give or withhold as you wish without account.” 39 And lo! he hath favour with Us, and a happy journey's end. 40
