The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On an open record. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
