The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea that is full 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
