He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
